TSU Art Gallery Branding

Essential Message & Background:
The Truman State University Art Gallery is a free, public gallery on Truman State’s campus. Each year the University Art Gallery hosts exhibitions of faculty and student art, art historical exhibitions, and exhibitions of regional contemporary art.
The Ask:
The Art Gallery Director was looking to create branding for the gallery. The challenge is that the new look and feel couldn’t stray too far from the existing branding that Truman had at the time.
Creative Solve:
Create a logo lockup that had a dual meaning. Visually it represents the physical shape of the gallery, and looks almost blueprint in nature — showing the main square gallery space and the side gallery. Also, it represents the larger mission of gallery: to connect the Truman campus students/faculty and the larger Kirksville community through the arts. The gallery hosts several events that are attended by both students and the residents of Kirksville.
We went with a palette that spoke to Truman’s branding at the time. The look and feel we were going for was sophisticated in nature but with a couple fun, odd, twists to speak to the creative and exploratory nature of the gallery.
